BCC Quarterly Is Out (2014, Issue 1)

BalanceCROPRethinking Pink

The Breast Cancer Consortium entered its second year with no shortage of issues to analyze and report. On-air mammograms, celebrity spots, social media, another large study revealing limitations and harms of mammography screening, a new scandal involving the Komen organization, and ongoing efforts to rethink pink.

Jody Schoger was on Al Jazeera’s The Stream to discuss, “Grief and Death in the Time of Social Media.” I was interviewed about the politics of pink for a Rethink Pink Summit (have a listen), and was on NPR’s KCRW about the recent Canadian National Breast Screening Study.

I gave, or will be giving, Beyond Awareness presentations in person or via SKYPE at the University of the Pacific, Texas Woman’s University, City University of New York, Wake Forest University, Vassar College, SUNY New Paltz, and University at Albany.

In addition to the highlights here, read our 2013 Report on Activities. Go to the BCC website for book reviews, research briefs, articles, and resources. Visit our growing News & Views archive, which has relevant insights, news items, and perspectives on current issues in breast cancer, and health and medicine more generally.

Feel free to email me at gayle.sulik@breastcancerconsortium.net to share your news, get information, or set up your own Beyond Awareness campaign. And, please forward our newsletter to colleagues and friends who would be interested in our work.

Cordially,

Gayle A. Sulik, PhD (founder and executive director, Breast Cancer Consortium)
